Powers of The Age To Come

God’s greatest gift to the world was His Son Jesus. The Lord Jesus’ greatest gift to His Church is the Helper, the Holy Spirit. Thank God for the Holy Spirit!
One of the main results of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is to lift us onto a totally supernatural plane of living.
In Hebrews 6:4,5 we read;

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come..”

From this passage we discover five things that should be standard for every New Testament believer:
(1) They have been enlightened,
(2) They have tasted the heavenly gift—the gift of eternal life,
(3) They have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit ministry,
(4) They have tasted the goodness of the Word of God—the Bible has become living and real to them, and
(5) They have tasted the powers of the coming age.

It is a given that all Christians believe that in the next age, we will function in a totally different way. We will be set free from the many limitations of our physical bodies. We will have a totally different kind of lifestyle. What many Christians don’t realize is that, through the Holy Spirit, we can taste a little of that lifestyle right now in this life. That means that we can come to know a little bit of what the next life is going to be like even in this life. If we read the New Testament with an open mind, we cannot help but be compelled to admit that the whole life and experiences of the early Christians were, in every part, permeated by the supernatural. Supernatural experiences were not something incidental or additional. They were an integral part of basic Christianity. Their praying was supernatural, their preaching was supernatural.
They were supernaturally guided, supernaturally empowered, supernaturally transported, and supernaturally protected. Remove the supernatural from the book of Acts and you are left with something that has no meaning or coherence. From the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 onwards, it is scarcely possible to find a single chapter in which the record of the supernatural does not play an essential part.
In Acts 19:11, the Scripture records that “God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul.” Notice that phrase “unusual miracles.” The Greek phrase here could be translated as “miracles of the kind that does not happen every day.” Miracles were in occurrence every day in the Early Church. Normally it would cause no special surprise or commotion but the miracles God had here in Ephesus were such that even the early Christians found them worthy of special record. In how many churches today would we find the occasion to use the phrase “miracles of the kind that does not happen every day?” In how many churches today do miracles happen, let alone happen every day! Make a decision today to yield yourself more to the power of the Spirit. You are created for the supernatural!

Happy New Year!

Many breathed a sigh of relief as 2009 became a memory! This past year was filled with economic hardships and challenges for many people worldwide. It’s a new year and many are hoping that 2010 will be better than 2009.

Each year at this time the headlines of the supermarket tabloids spew their earth shattering predictions for the coming year. This is a source of amusement and chuckles for me as I stand in the check-out aisle. The accuracy rate of the worlds ‘top psychics’ is less than 7%. If you were to guess random predictions, research has shown that your accuracy would well, you guessed it, be about 7%! Not only do the predictions of the world’s ‘blue ribbon’ psychics fail to materialize, they also miss foreseeing the major headlines of the year, ie London terror bombing, 2004 tsunami, hurricane Katrina, Haiti earthquake etc.

Here are some headline predictions that did not transpire:

  • Wynonna Judd quit country music to become a women’s wrestler;
  • Fidel Castro will be jailed after his government is overthrown in a massive revolt and will move to Beverly Hills.
  • Nighttime joggers and cyclists began taking a drink that makes their skin glow bright green in the dark.
  • Rising insurance costs (forced) the NFL to eliminate tackle football in favor of two-handed touch.
  • Madonna will become “so concerned about the quality of children’s TV shows she buys the rights to the Mickey Mouse Club, revives the show and stars in it herself.”

As a believer how can we predict our future? The best way to predict our future is to create it!

Jesus said in Matthew 12:33-35 that our lives are like a fruit-bearing tree and that we could determine what the fruit of our lives would be. He said we could make the tree ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ From this passage we see that our hearts are a ‘spiritual womb’ nurturing our future. The condition of our hearts determines the quality of our lives. From the good treasures of your heart we can bring forth good. From the big treasure of our heart we can give birth to ‘big!’

Let me encourage you this year to sow God’s promises in your heart like never before. You are created to rule and reign in Christ! Read the following scriptures like this was the first time:

Matt. 12:33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things."

Rom. 5:17 "For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."

God’s wants you to cooperative in His amazing dream for your life. Give Him something to work with. Plant a seed! Your future is in your heart. What seed are you planting today?

Jer. 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Anthony's First Blog

Welcome to my first ‘blog’ everyone! You may have heard the story on the news this week of Rom Houben. Twenty three years ago a car crash left him totally paralyzed. He was misdiagnosed as being in a vegetative state.

Fox News reported:

‘But, in actuality, he was trapped in his own body the whole time with no way of letting friends and family know he could hear every word they were saying. The 46-year-old, who can now tap out computerized messages and read books on a device above his hospital bed, has revealed: "I screamed, but there was nothing to hear. All that time I literally dreamed of a better life. Frustration is too small a word to describe what I felt," he said. "I shall never forget the day when they discovered what was truly wrong with me — it was my second birth. I want to read, talk with my friends via the computer and enjoy life. Now people know I am not dead."’

How frustrating! Trapped in a damaged, atrophied body did a full, cognizant, intelligent life desperately desire expression!

As tragic as this story is, for the last two thousand years the Life of Jesus has earnestly sought expression through His sometimes paralyzed and spastic body! We, individually and corporately, are His Body!

He has committed Himself to do His work only through His Body.

He wants to let people know He is not dead!

Are you ‘flowing’ with the Head today? Has lack of serving caused you to be atrophied? Are you doing your own thing causing His body to look ‘spastic?’

I imagine a church body, where each member is not only clearly connected with the Head, walking in His Love, but also connected to each other, building each other up in the Lord! Every joint supplying causing growth!

What are you contributing to His Body today?

Are you empowering or devouring His Body?

Are you a contributor or a consumer?

Lets live connected so that the world may know He LIVES!
